Summary: This book is a about a young 13 year old girl named Lakshmi who is from Nepal. Lakshmi is the type of person who isn’t selfish and accepts things gratefully. When her family’s crops are washed away from the monsoon, Lakshmi’s stepfather tells her she has to get a job to support the family. She finds a rich stranger who promises her a good paying job, so Lakshmi accepts to go. The stranger takes her to India and puts her in the Happy House. It is her first night when she finds out that she has been sold into prostitution.
Why I picked it up: I picked the book up because I thought it was interesting. When I read the summary in the book flap I was hooked to read the rest. It is a good book about how much strength a little girl can have, and that anyone can be strong.
Why I kept reading it: I kept reading the book because it had a good hook and every single time I turn the page I want to read more and find out what is happening.
Who would I give it to next: I would give this book to anyone who likes suspense, but I don’t think the fainthearted, or the easily-disgusted type of people would like this book.
