The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Summary: Katniss is a 16 year old girl living in an oppressive society named Panem, where food is scarce and freedoms are limited. When the Hunger Games come around, a TV show where 24 children are chosen to compete with only one person coming out on top, Katniss finds that her sister is chosen. In an attempt to save her sister’s life, she takes her place and enters the Hunger Games on her behalf. Now she is playing for the ultimate prize – her life.

Why I picked it up: After all of the hype and praise I have heard about this book, and after someone recommended this novel to me, I had no choice but to investigate this novel for myself. I went into this book not expecting too much to happen and didn’t anticipate it to be anything more than a simple storyline. Little more than a few pages after the first chapter however, I learned that I couldn’t have been more off the mark.

Why I kept reading it: This book completely blew me away, the depth of this novel and its suspenseful and engaging storyline kept me hooked until through to the very last word.

Who would I give it to next: I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for book that will keep you on the edge of your seat and that won’t let you put it down, as this book does that and so much more.
